TEXTURE
The appearance of texture is achieved through repeating light and dark strokes to create shadow effects in my highly-detailed oil paintings. Painting texture is very challenging but something I really love to do and explore in many of my paintings. This is one series I really have fun with, as the challenge of painting texture is one I fully embrace. I also use different tools including very fine paint brushes to create the tiniest of details in the most accurate way possible.
My concept for many of these pieces was to simply depict close-ups of everyday objects without defining the outer edges of the subject, so you only see the texture, not the full or actual object. For the collection of rugs I painted, it was also about trying to paint a fluffy sensation, so that someone would want to reach out and touch the painting. The bubble wrap series goes back to my love of painting clear objects that are round and reflective somewhat within their own dimpled texture.
